In this work we mostly deal with PD and clutter maps produced through signal processing of simulated sonar time series. The simulation is carried out using the Sonar Simulation Toolset (SST). In the considered method, the probability of detection is obtained from simulated echo values and parametric analysis of the clutter distribution in each detection cell. This analysis is based on ensemble averaging and fitting to a Rician probability density function. We’ll summarise the adopted computational scheme and discuss some of its technical aspects that allowed us to accelerate the computation and reduce memory demands. We’ll also illustrate, using examples with both the simulated and real data, how the clutter maps can be utilised in sonar signal processing as components of a detection statistic in order to improve the discrimination of the echo from the clutter. Speaker: Sergey Simakov Sergey Simakov received Ph.D degree in mathematical physics from Moscow State University in 1990. He moved to Australia in 1995. Between 1995 and 2002, he worked with The University of Adelaide, University of South Australia and the Centre for Sensor Signal and Information Processing (CSSIP). Sergey has been working in the Maritime Division (MD) since August 2002 and contributed to a number of MD projects and bi & multi-lateral efforts .
