This technique offers high spatial resolution due to the synthetic aperture created by the relative motion between the target and the radar. It is effective in various environmental conditions and does not depend on lighting, making it typically used in surveillance and reconnaissance applications. This technique differs from traditional two-dimensional ISAR imaging by incorporating aspect angle diversity to infer the third dimension, hence delivering a comprehensive volumetric visualization of the target. Consequently, it also improves Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) capabilities by providing detailed three-dimensional data, which allows for distinguishing between different types of objects based on their geometrical characteristics, thereby overcoming the limitations due to the image projection mechanism. This seminar will provide an overview of 3D InISAR and will also present some recent developments that improve the quality of 3D reconstructions. We will explore how the integration of fully polarimetric data can refine result accuracy. Additionally, we will discuss the exploitation of frequency diversity in wideband receivers, which helps resolve the challenges of interferometric phase ambiguity. These techniques collectively enhance the radar system’s surveillance capabilities, making 3D InISAR an important tool in surveillance and non-cooperative target recognition applications.
