Introduction to Programming and Sensors with Raspberry Pico – Embedded Systems Introductory Workshop

July 11, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Note: in-person on-site event only Overview of Workshop You may have heard of the Raspberry Pi, the credit-card sized computer that runs Linux. But what about its new smaller cousin, the Raspberry Pi Pico? It is an embedded computer, that you can program directly with Python or C like an Arduino. The Raspberry Pi Pico packs a huge punch for its small size, can run on a battery, and costs under $10, and you actually can buy them despite the semiconductor chip shortage! It can take over many tasks leaving your precious stock of Linux Pi’s for things Linux is best at. In this workshop, which is aimed at beginners to embedded computing, you’ll learn everything needed to program the Pico using nothing more than your own laptop, a USB cable and a web browser. You will also be able to acquire hands-on experience yourself on how to connect the Pico to buttons, buzzers and create a mini weather station with a display, and discover other ways you can adapt the Pico to anything you might think of! As part of this course you’ll receive a Pico that is yours to keep along with a number of sensors and parts. You will also learn a basic overview of all the different capabilities of the Pico so you have a starting point for your ongoing and future embedded design/program exploration. A networking session shall follow the workshop with light drinks/snacks provided. Light refreshments are also provided during breaks.
