2023 CAES and CS Lab Tour Series @ Laboratory for Cyber-Physical-Human Systems

March 2, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The new robotic facility at the University of Adelaide is used for experiments with collaborative robots used in advanced manufacturing systems. The lab is equipped with two UR 5e robotic arms and one AUBO i5 robotic arm. It also has many different types of grippers and on-arm cameras for collaborative manufacturing tasks. We are currently using the facility to conduct experiments and develop innovative robotic systems for several projects focusing on addressing one of our national research priorities in Advanced Manufacturing. We are sponsored by Australian Meat Processing Corporation to develop robotic and autonomous solutions that can reduce human involvement in high-risk meat processing settings. A featured project is called the Shadow Robot, which uses a wearable exoskeleton device to control dual-robotic arms that duplicate human motions and poses in real-time. This development will allow humans to remotely control robotic arms for high-risk operations while remaining in the processing loop. We also work with AUBO Robots and use their collaborative robots to conduct scanning of the outside/inside of an aeroplane to detect any cracks and damaged surfaces. Conventionally, this task is conducted by humans due to the limitation of space. We designed the conceptual framework of using collaborative robots for this task with human-on-the-loop. This lab tour is co-hosted by the Control, Aerospace and Electronic Systems Chapter and the Computer Society Chapter of the IEEE South Australia Section. Dr Xin Yuan (Vernon) will introduce the research group and facilities and demonstrate the latest innovations. Speaker(s): Dr Xin Yuan (Vernon), Agenda: 7:00 pm – Short talk about Systems and Control Group at the University of Adelaide 7:15 pm – Lab tour and demonstration 7:30 pm – Food, drink and network session Room: NG08, Bldg: Engineering North Building, The University of Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, 5005
