In this talk, we will introduce the concept of absorptive frequency-selective structures, which are different from the traditional frequency selective structures (FSS). By introducing losses or absorbers into the traditional FSS, we can design both absorptive frequency-selective reflection (AFSR) and absorptive frequency-selective transmission (AFST) structures.

I will first introduce the motivation behind the design of AFSR and AFST structures. A brief review of the state-of-the-art designs of AFSR and AFST structures will then be given. Design considerations will be presented to widen the absorption bandwidth and to reduce the reflection or transmission loss for the frequency band of interest.

Practical examples will be finally provided to demonstrate the performance of the designed AFSR and AFST structures with simulation and measurement results. Further research topics related to absorptive FSS will also be suggested in the end.
