History of the IAS Calcutta chapter
There was a constant urge amongst the IAS members at Calcutta to form a Chapter to cater to the technical activities of their specific interest. Under the encouragement and guidance of Prof. A. K. Chattopadhyay and Mr. C. Satish (the IAS Region 10 Area Chair), Dr. S. K. Biswas undertook the task of combining the efforts of 15 eager IAS members and submitted a Petition on 15th September 1997 to form an IAS Chapter at Calcutta, which was forwarded by the IEEE Calcutta Section with full co-operation.
The Petition was accepted by the Regional Activities Committee of the IEEE and thus the IAS Calcutta Chapter came into official existence from 8th October 1997 with Dr. S. K. Biswas as the Interim Chairman.
