Abstract: In this talk, Mr. Simon Worthington will discuss some of the work they have been doing with decentralised compute-over-data to make it easier to run ML training and inference in more challenging environments. This would include talking about:

The challenges with centralising ML

• ML across latency boundaries: how to run computation in environments without stable networking (e.g. in space)
• ML across trust boundaries: how to run computation over sensitive data that can’t be moved (e.g. healthcare data)
• ML across scale boundaries: running ML over massive data volumes without incurring movement costs (e.g. a 4K CCTV network)

Bio: Simon Worthington is a technologist and engineer, he works across both government and industry to build better interfaces between humans and data by leading new products, developing cutting-edge data infrastructure and researching new patterns and models with real data users. He was lead author on a United Kingdom Office for AI report on distributed ledger technology for data institutions and previously led work looking at personal data stores and distributed consent for the UK’s Government Digital Service. Simon is a founder of Register Dynamics, a London-based data consultancy on a mission to make data more useful for everyone, and VP of Engineering for Expanso Inc.
