Abstract—For the economic development of a nation, electric power and energy is one of the greatest enablers. With the establishment of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Nepal initiated power sector reforms to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply to Nepalese households, businesses, and industries. NEA has made significant investments in upgrading and expanding the country’s transmission and distribution infrastructure to reduce power outages and improve the quality of power supply. As a result, the country has seen a significant reduction in power outages over the years, with the average duration of power cuts falling from over 12 hours per day in 2009 to less than two hours per day in 2020. But Nepal‘s power system still continues to face challenges such as inadequate transmission and distribution facilities, poor rates of electrification in rural regions, substantial losses in the power system due to technical and commercial factors, and a lack of a diverse energy supply. This paper analyzes the present scenarios of the existing transmission line network of the Integrated Nepal Power System (INPS) and its prevailing problems. This paper also discusses the present transmission line loading percentage and the criticality of these lines in relation to load demand and generation growth.
