LPS Design Analysis: A Case Study of RIC Building at Pashchimanchal Campus
Authors: Shahabuddin Khan, Menaka Karki

Abstract— An effective LPS design could be achieved by implementing the measures for both external and internal protection against lightning strokes. This should well facilitate the large discharge current in the form of lightning streamers directly to the ground without making impulse sideways. The project site is one of the vulnerable areas that receives strokes very frequently during monsoon season. Also, the earth is very graveled and rocky that it is hardly possible to achieve standard of >10Ω earth resistance value. This paper describes two possible ways to obtain the protection with the cost analysis. LPS design using natural components could bring more benefits than that not using natural components. The cost saving as high as 54% was observed.
