Abstract—Distribution System over Nepal has poor reliability because of unstable voltage, overloading of distribution lines, unnecessary tripping of protective devices, etc. Moreover, unreliability of distribution system is also bolstered by miscoordination between fuses and recloser because of improper relay settings and improper fuse rating. Furthermore, if one or more distributed generators are connected in the distribution network, the protection coordination becomes more complex. This research focuses on optimization of relay-fuse coordination in the presence of distributed generations using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) Algorithm optimization tool in MATLAB programming environment. ETAP was used for the calculation of steady state and short-circuit current. In this paper, protection coordination between the fuses and recloser is presented for three different cases of IEEE 33-bus test system i.e. (i) When there is no DG in the network (ii) When there is only one DG in the network and (iii) when there are multiple DGs in the network. DGs are located at optimal places resulting minimal line losses resulting acceptable voltage profile.
