Abstract— Distribution system network is the most sensitive component of power system. Many issues related to voltage regulation, active and reactive power loss, harmonics, reliability, etc. occurs in distribution network due to variable loading conditions and faults. Integration of distributed generators (DG) into the distribution network is a method to solve above mentioned issues. In this paper, PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm is implemented for the optimal allocation of DG to obtain the required objective. The objective function consists of minimization of the active power loss, minimization of cost of energy not supplied (CENS), voltage profile enhancement and penalty factor. A real case data of 114 bus Sitalnagar distribution system is used to implement the proposed objective function. The size and location for Type 1, Type 2 and Type 4 DG are obtained and analyzed. The analysis shows that optimal size and placement of DGs reduces power losses, improves voltage profile and also reliability for 114 bus system. The increase in penetration of DGs enhances voltage profile from 0.95 p.u. to 1.05 at network buses. Best results for active power loss reduction for Type 1, Type 2, Type 4 DG are 61.89%, 50.18%, 13.72% at DG penetration level 45%, 25%, 25% respectively. Maximum reduction in CENS is obtained 45.09% with Type 1 DG of size 2245.5 kVA for 45% penetration at bus no 57.
