Modelling and MATLAB Simulation of Multilevel Inverters for PV System
Authors: Sanjaya Raj Timilsena, Purna Pun
Abstract—In this paper, a comparison between seven level and twenty-five level multilevel inverter for PV system is performed in order to check the performance and to analyze the harmonics distortion of these inverters and to examine whether the harmonics is reduced with the increase in number of level or not. Multilevel inverter can have a significant impact on the overall performance of the PV system including total harmonic distortion (THD), switching losses and efficiency. Here, Main focus is given in the comparison and analysis of the total harmonic distortion (THD). H-Bridge cascaded multilevel inverter with photovoltaic MPPT control is shown. Based on the development of a maximum powerpoint tracker (MPPT), the perturb and observe (P&O) technique is utilized to maximize the generated power from the solar PV. The parameters are selected from the locally installed solar project named Kalika Solar Lifting Water supply and cleanliness project installed at Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality ward no:: 28, Kalika which was implemented by Nepal Red Cross Society. Rating and specification are taken from this project as far as realistic and as practicable as possible. A simulation using MATLAB/Simulink is realized to verify the system performance. The proposed model dynamic behavior is investigated under normal operating situations.
