Abstract—Being free availability, clean source and technically more feasible source, hydro becomes one and only source of electrical energy of the country. Beside hydro there is more potential of solar and wind but contribution of solar comparison to hydro is very less and also government has less priority in these resources. The future energy mix of the country may be hydro and solar with major part hydro. Capacity factor of hydro power plants is calculated based on previous energy generation data of operating hydro power plants and future energy generation from the projects estimated to operate is calculated. Completion of 8,631 MW till F/Y 2087/088 will result huge energy spill if we are not able to create energy market within or outside the country. Similarly, completion of about 17,000 MW till F/Y 2092/093 will also results huge energy spill. But if business as usual goes and only half of the estimated projects comes in operation than there will be need of additional storage projects to meet the demand during dry season although there will be energy surplus in wet season. So, there will be seasonal imbalance in demand and generation. This can be mitigated either by energy trading with neighboring country or by energy banking.
