Abstract— Electric vehicles (EV) are considered clean and reliable source of transportation. However, if the whole of the gasoline vehicles are replaced by the electric vehicle, it will have serious impact on the existing distribution system. When all the EVs return home from work and start charging uncontrollably then significant load will be imposed in the distribution network. With the uncoordinated charging the stability of the distribution network is disturbed. This research work aims to charge the EVs in a coordinated way to improve the distribution network stability also considering vehicle to grid technology in the presence of renewables. Selling energy back to grid during high tariff period allows the users to earn extra revenue. But on continuous charging and discharging of the battery, its lifecycle degrades and battery replacement will add extra burden on the EV users. This research work tries to minimize the battery degradation cost by considering the depth of discharge at each time interval. The work is carried out in IEEE 15 bus system. The optimum value of charging and discharging is calculated using the metaheuristic algorithm i.e. Firefly Algorithm considering three different scenarios.
