Abstract—The purpose of the study is to formulate a centralized approach to the DC optimal power flow (DCOPF) for power system network. AC optimal power flow (ACOPF) problem for the power system network possess non-linearity and nonconvexity to the optimization problem making the optimal power flow a computationally costly problem. The DCOPF on the other hand, convexifies the ACOPF to a great extent making the problem computationally easier and provides results with fair amount of accuracy for bulk power transmission network. The DCOPF in the study is implemented on IEEE 14 bus test system using Julia programming language and Gurobi solver that supports mixed-integer linear programming (MILP). The result obtained from the proposed optimization problem gives the optimal dispatch of the generators and transmission line power flows without violating their limits. This results could be a heuristic guide for calculation of the locational marginal price and nodal prices in electricity markets, and also a benchmark for validation of the results obtained through decentralized approach to the optimal power flow problem.
