AbstractElectricity is an inevitable need in modern era. A consumer however, hardly interacts with the generation and transmission sector of the power system. The day to day interaction of consumer is with distribution system. Maintaining the distribution system is thus a task of an utmost importance for a power system engineer to reduce Energy Not Served (ENS) to the consumers. This has led to plenty of research in the field of distribution network reliability. However, in recent times, the research area is shifted towards smart grid. However, for a developing countries complete shift towards automation and smart grid may not be possible in short time. It is essential to carry out a gradual shift towards the smart grid system. It is also essential for the utilities to study detail model of their repair and maintenance operation while taking investment decisions. This paper presents a methodology of modeling the staff component in evaluation ENS for a distribution network. As a gradual step towards the smart grid, the paper evaluates impact in ENS of implementation of condition monitoring in distribution system. ENS for system with and without condition monitoring technique has been calculated with Sequential Monte Carlo simulations. The load and maintenance behaviour has been modeled as per utility practice in Nepal. It is observed that, condition monitoring shall have minimal impact in ENS with current maintenance practice.
