Prof Simshauser will discuss the prospects and challenges surrounding the growing role of renewables, emerging technologies, and the evolving regulatory framework, offering invaluable insights into Queensland’s sustainable energy future, with a particular focus on transformative mega initiatives such as CopperString and the Hydrogen Industry Strategy. Brief Biography: Paul Simshauser AM is the CEO of Powerlink Queensland, the state’s $8 billion electricity transmission network utility. Paul has more than 25 years’ experience in the energy industry across the listed, public and private sectors, spanning power generation, energy trading, retail supply, electricity networks, public administration, policy and academia. Paul’s prior roles include Director-General of the Queensland Department of Energy, EGM Energy Markets at Infigen Energy, and Chief Economist at AGL Energy. He holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Finance. Paul is also a Professor of Economics at Griffith University’s Business School. In 2019 he was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia forsignificant contribution to the energy industry, through executive roles and applied economics and policy research.
