Peter Arlett 2022 at JCU – 13 Oct 2022 – IEEE Northern Australia hosted Dr. Daniel Eghbal and Prof. Syed Islam for the 2022 Peter Arlett Lecture. A great night of technical discussion and networking along with representation for Peter Arlett’s family.

 

High School STEM Engineering Event at JCU – 16 July 2022 – IEEE Northern Australia supported an introduction to engineering event at JCU, led by IEEE NA Chair Mostafa. Aspiring engineers built and programmed arduino enabled environmental sensing systems.

Section Visit by R10 Director and Director-Elect – 6 July 2022 – The IEEE Northern Australia Section Executive Committee was joined by Prof Lance Fung and Prof Deepak Mathur, the R10 Director and Director-Elect. Much discussion on how to grow small sections and leverage IEEE resources occurred, followed by a dinner which was enjoyed by all.

IEEE – AIMS Australian Chief Scientist Event – 9 Mar 2022 – IEEE Northern Australia teamed up with the Australian Institute of Marine Science and NQ SPARK to showcase Townsville engineering innovation to Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr. Cathy Foley at Cape Cleveland.

IEEE NA AGM 2021  – Thanks to all the volunteers, members and Section Committee that made 2021 such a success! Congratulations to the 2022 Section Chair Mostafa Rahimi-Azghadi and the 2022 IEEE NA Committee.

IEEE R10 Most Outstanding Small Section Award – IEEE NA received the 2021 award for the most outstanding section in Region 10.

Townsville Primary School Lego Robotics Car Racing Competition – 18 Aug 2021 . IEEE NA Section Exec members judged Townville primary school student teams who designed and then raced robotics enabled lego cars!

IEEE R10 Award for year 2020 received – IEEENA Section received an “R10 Best Membership Growth Small Section Award

Backyard (Home) Inventions Talk. This is the first one of its kind for the section, inspired by IEEENA Chair Melanie Olsen. The talk was held on 7-May-2020 : “Dunny Dramas 12Vdc Solar Pump” presented by Graham Woods. Delivery was done with ZOOM (online). PowerPoint presentation available.

25 Years Celebration – IEEE Northern Australia

This is a special year for the IEEE Northern Australia Section as it celebrates our 25th year of the formation of this section. Dr. Graham Woods, Chair of the IEEE Northern Australia Section in 2019 was presented a banner in early March 2019 at the Region 10 meeting – in recognition of 25th years since its formation. Formation of IEEE Northern Territory Subsection – approved – Feb-16-2019

The formation of the IEEE Northern Territory Subsection was approved by the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities Board on February 16, 2019. The Chair of the Northern Territory Subsection is Mamoun Alazab based at Charles Darwin University in Darwin.

First Year Engineering Prize presentation

On behalf of IEEE NA, Melanie Olsen presented to Ben Walters the IEEE North Australian section First Year prize for the James Cook University (Townsville) student who had the best first year results in a degree program leading to IEEE membership. The award was presented at the James Cook University Prize Ceremony 2017.
