ODYSSEY Session 2: Cyber Security SecOps

The “Odyssey Session 2: SecOps” webinar took place on August 25, 2025, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The IEEE Education Society Kerala Chapter organized the session to introduce undergraduate students to the field of Security Operations (SecOps). The event welcomed 72 participants, demonstrating strong interest in cybersecurity as a growing domain. The objective was simple and impactful: help learners understand SecOps fundamentals and explore career opportunities in the cybersecurity ecosystem.

The program opened with a warm welcome by Er. Akshay, Student Activities Chair of IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter. Soon after, Mr. Brian Roy Mathew, Research Activities Coordinator of IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter, began the main session. He explained the importance of SecOps in today’s digital world and highlighted the responsibilities of security operations professionals. Moreover, he shared insights on skill development and career pathways, while encouraging beginners to practice hands-on learning using simple setups. His clear explanations and relatable examples made the session easy to follow and inspiring for newcomers.

The event included a brief Virtual Photography session led by Mr. Anantha Krishnan, Senior Representative of IEEE EdSoc. This creative break added variety and energy to the program. Next, the Q&A session allowed attendees to clarify doubts and learn more about SecOps roles, tools, and real-world workflows. Participants actively engaged with the speaker and expressed excitement about exploring cybersecurity further. Their involvement highlighted the successful design and execution of the session.

The webinar concluded with a closing note and Vote of Thanks by Mr. Nikhesh K S, Designer at IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter. A virtual memento was presented to Mr. Brian Roy Mathew as a gesture of appreciation. The session ended with feedback instructions and certificate details. Odyssey Session 2: SecOps stood out for its balanced approach, combining technical learning, practical guidance, and interactive participation. As a result, students left the session motivated to pursue cybersecurity skills and explore SecOps as a promising career path.
