The IEEE Education Society Kerala Chapter, in association with the IEEE SB SNGCE, organized UDAAN 2.0 at Sree Narayana Gurukulam College of Engineering, Kadayiruppu, on the 4 January 2025. The event, which ran from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, saw a significant turnout of participants eager to explore the future of engineering.
SESSION 1: Gateway to Engineering: The Roadmap
The first session, was led by E.R Vyasan J, a Solopreneur, Angel Investor, and Freelance Data Engineering Technical Trainer. The second session, was presented by Hazna R. Mohammed, the Membership Development Coordinator of the IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter. This session aimed to provide pre-university students with a comprehensive understanding of the rapidly evolving technological landscape and its endless possibilities. Ms. Hazna began the session with an engaging introduction to the concept of technology and its significance in shaping the future. She provided a brief yet insightful explanation of key technological advancements, including robotics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. After the second session, participants were taken on a guided tour of the Sree Narayana Gurukulam College of Engineering. The tour provided an opportunity for the students to explore the campus facilities, interact with faculty members, and gain insights into the academic environment and resources available at the college.
SESSION 3: From Calculations to Conversations: Soft Skills for the Modern Engineer
The third session, was conducted by Maya Devi Menon, the Founder of Mindempowered. Mindempowered is a charitable organization dedicated to empowering individuals with emotional resilience and mental health awareness. This session, aimed at pre-university students, focused on essential skills needed for personal and professional growth. Ms. Maya Devi provided soft skill training in engineering to the students through an interactive game format. The training included various activities involving both the students and volunteers. The games were designed to enhance problem-solving, critical thinking, creative thinking, and analytical skills. She converted different tasks into engaging games, demonstrating how to manage tasks efficiently and apply these skills in a professional environment. The session emphasized the importance of soft skills in the modern engineering landscape. By fostering these skills, students were equipped to approach challenges with confidence and innovative thinking. The day began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Prathibha Varghese, Branch Counsellor of IEEE SB SNGCE, emphasizing the importance of UDAAN 2.0 in shaping the future of engineering for pre-university students highlighting how such initiatives provide valuable opportunities for young minds to explore and develop their potential in the field of engineering. This was followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by Sri K N Gopalakrishnan, Treasurer, SNG Trust symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge and enlightenment.
