The 5-day solar energy internship was conducted during the month of May, with multiple sessions held in three cities: Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode. This approach ensured that the program reached a wider audience by covering the South, Central, and North parts of Kerala, facilitating convenient access for participants from different regions.
The internship attracted candidates pursuing or having completed Diploma/B.E./B.Tech. in relevant engineering fields. The program covered a wide range of topics, including the energy scenario in Kerala, solar PV technology, challenges and advantages of solar power generation, battery technology, and electrical safety procedures.
The curriculum consisted of theoretical sessions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on experiences. Participants observed solar panels on-site, learned to connect them in series and parallel, and measured various parameters. They gained insights into the design and functioning of solar cells, the significance of solar panel orientation, and the installation process.
Furthermore, the internship provided participants with knowledge about commercial installations, preparing proposals for solar panel projects, and technical specifications for power plants. The program emphasized the need for engineers to have a social commitment and introduced major solar projects in Kerala, promoting a holistic understanding of the field.
