Centre of Excellence Program

IEEE Circuit and Systems Society, Bangalore has take an initiative to setup few centers of excellence (CoE). This centers will be opened in association with CASS student branches to motivate, educate and support students and graduate students. We are inviting or looking for Expression of Interest (EoI) from the educational institutions where IEEE CASS has an active student branch. To host a CoE the institution must have a dedicated space (room/lab) and a point of contact (PoC) from the student branch. CASS Bangalore will support the CoE with initial seed fund of Rs. 20000 and an expert in the area of excellence. The seed funds should be used to buy instruments only. The PoC of the CoE should conduct regular activities in consultation with CASS. The activities could be technical talks, demos, projects and research. The CoE must follow rules and regulations fixed by the IEEE CASS Bangalore from time to time.

To apply to open a CoE please fill this form. CoE Expression of Interest

List of Centers of Excellence

Initially CASS Bangalore has decided to open four CoEs.

  • CoE for the Humanitarian Technology (CoEHT)
  • CoE for the Field Programmable Gate Arrays (CoEFPGA)
  • CoE for the Embedded Systems (CoEES)
  • CoE for the Circuit Design (CoECD)

We are looking for the Expression of Interest (EoI) from the educational institutions where CASS has an active student branch.

CoEHT

In this category the CoE can get equipment like Drone, Robots, IoT kits, motors etc. by using the seed fund. Activities must include projects and research which improve day to day life of common people. Sustainable development, renewable energy, improvements in agriculture, etc. are the key areas of interest. As CASS deal with circuits and systems, all the activities must be related to electronics and electrical engineering and techniques.

CoEFPGA

In this category the CoE can get equipment like FPGA development boards and related daughter boards by using the seed fund. Activities must include research and development of digital intellectual properties which can be realized on FPGA. It is not necessary to create new IPs but implementation of existing and freely available IPs is also appreciated. Making new System on Chips (SoC) using existing and freely available digital designs are of great interest.

CoEES

In this category the CoE can get equipment like microcontroller development boards, small displays, driver boards, etc. by using the seed fund. Activities must include projects and development of useful items using the dev kits. Assembly language programming is an integral part of embedded systems. So, developing and improving the firmware of existing solutions are also appreciated. HT and ES are two closely related CoEs. So overlap of activities are expected.

CoECD

In this category the CoE can get equipment like discrete electronic components like ICs, transistors, FET/MOSFET, capacitors, inductors, resistors, PCBs etc. by using the seed fund. Low cost or PC based signal analyzer/generator are also fine to have. Activities must include projects and development of useful items using the PCB and components. CoECD can collaborate with CoEES to develop analog sections to make wonderful projects together.
