IEEE Young Professionals Victorian Section had their first STEP event at La Trobe University, organised in partnership with Women in Engineering, IEEE La Trobe student branch. Around 50 students from all year levels had the chance to network with our guests from IEEE Young Professionals Victorian Section: Chamath Divarathne (Chair), Vijay S. Paul (Secretary), Fatemeh Jalali (Treasurer) and our guest Champake Mendis.
They talked about their journey, gave advice on application processes and shared interview tips. At the end, there was a Q&A session, where they answered any questions from the audience. The students were told about the importance of volunteering, and the benefits that they can have by joining IEEE.
The event received very good feedback from attendees and contributed to the recruitment of undergraduate and postgraduate students to join IEEE.
