Technical Talk- Prof. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee, IIT Guwahati
IEEE Silchar Subsection is organizing a technical talk on Wireless Communication: Some Emerging Trends by Prof. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee, IIT Guwahati on 2 June 2023 at 5:00 PM at the Seminar Room of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar, Silchar-788010. All Members of IEEE and other interested persons are requested to register their names in the link- https://forms.gle/96mhCcwQ5mc3Uk156 Registration will close by 1 June 2023 at 5:00 PM. Outstation participants may join the programme online. Link will be shared accordingly before the technical talk. Abstract of the Talk: Over the last few decades, wireless communication has witnessed unprecedented growth and in recent times fifth generation of such technologies are undergoing deployment. While 5G deployment is underway, researchers have already started investigations on the next generations of wireless communication systems. In future, new spectrum bands will be made use of to support the need for the higher and higher data rate. Next generation of wireless system targets to lower latency further, enhance energy efficiency and provide greater support for machine-to-machine communication. AI and ML techniques will find larger application and intelligent reflecting surfaces will be used for enhanced connectivity. This talk will provide some insights into these emerging trends and will also present some of the activities carried out in these directions by the research group of the speaker. About the Speaker: Ratnajit Bhattacharjee joined IIT Guwahati in the year 2002 and currently is a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. His research interests include Wireless communication, Wireless networks, Microstrip antennas, Microwave Engineering and Electromagnetics. He has co-authored about one hundred and seventy-five research papers. Twenty-one research students have completed their PhD under his supervision. He has served as General Chair for 5th edition of IEEE Applied Electromagnetic Conference, AEMC 2015 and 22nd National Conference on Communications, NCC 2016. He has served as Head, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, from 2011 to 2014. He has delivered invited talks in a number of conferences, symposia and workshops. He has developed a web course on Electromagnetic theory and a video course on Microwave Engineering under NPTEL. He has also been involved with several research projects. He has served as the chief investigator for the MeitY sponsored project for setting up of an Electronics & ICT academy at IIT Guwahati. He is a member of the research advisory committee of SAMEER and lab research council of LRDE. He is presently Head of the Computer and Communication Centre, IIT Guwahati and also Head for the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Guwahati. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, he served as a faculty member at REC (at present NIT) Silchar from 1991 to 2002. He holds a Ph.D (Engineering) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and an M.Tech (Microwave Engineering) from IIT Kharagpur. He did his B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (First Class Hons) from REC (at present NIT) Silchar.
