2022 IEEE Ambassador meets college students and parents in the park
2022 IEEE Ambassador meets college students and parents in the park
IEEE STEM Ambassador meets college students and parents in Waterview Park 2022 IEEE PreU STEM Event: IEEE STEM Ambassador A/Professor Nurul Sarkar met college students and parents in Waterview Park (Auckland, New Zealand) to have a mentoring session. The event was held on Monday 31st January 2022. The discussion began with a light lunch and finished with Soccer play. We had seven senior college students (mostly Year 11 and 12) and five parents. We talked about the IEEE STEM program and asked each student about their future career in turn. It is interesting to note that some students are keen to study Engineering and Technology after completing high school. Parents are also happy to see their childrens' Engineering career direction. Finally, we talked about sporting interests and played soccer (students versus parents). Both students and parents enjoyed the event. Speaker(s): Nurul, Waterview Park, Auckland, Auckland, North Island, New Zealand

ENZ EEG Presentation – MCDHB: Clinical Services – HV and LV Upgrades
ENZ EEG Presentation – MCDHB: Clinical Services – HV and LV Upgrades
The Electrical Engineering Group are delighted to start this year with a member presentation by Brendon Clarke, a Principal Electrical Engineer with Aecom, on HV and LV Upgrades - High Criticality and Brownfield Sites. Brendon will present on a recent project undertaken at Palmerston North Hospital that involved the establishment of a new HV supply substation, upgrades to existing HV distribution equipment and an in-situ upgrade of a clinical services LV main switchboard in the basement of the Palmerston North Hospital. The presentation will seek to provide insights into some of the more challenging aspects with upgrading infrastructure in a complex brownfield environment, and notable features implemented to reduce operational risks and ease future replacements. Aspects include: - Installation challenges and delivery constraints - HV and LV protection coordination with embedded generation present - Maintainability and operability design factors - Resiliency of supplies and closed source transfer implementation - Lifecycle design factors - Test approaches and integration verification - DDoC's and part 1 deviation requirements - Managing installation and commissioning risks Following his presentation Brendon will be available to answer questions at the end.
