ENZ: Internal Arc Fault Mitigation in MV & LV Switchgear

This presentation will explore Arc Faults within MV and LV switchgear.

We will explore what are some of the common causes and the severity of arc faults.

It will outline and explore some of the common industry solutions for minimising or mitigating the risks of internal arc faults.

Following the presentation Shaun will be available to answer your questions.

The presentation will start at 5:30pm sharp. For those attending in person drinks and nibbles will be provided from 5:00pm.

• What is an Arc Fault, and what are the associated risk factors.
• Overview of what some of the common causes are that initiate arc faults within Switchgear.
• Medium Voltage Switchgear solutions to minimise the effects of an Internal Arc Fault.
• Low Voltage Switchboard Design Criteria to IEC/TR 61641
• LV Switchboard Solutions to reduce the risks associated with an Internal Arc Fault.

Presenter Bio:
Shaun has worked in the electrical power distribution industry in New Zealand for over 40 years, with over 15 years’ experience in the design, manufacture and verification of Low Voltage Motor Control Centres and Main Switchboards.

In his role at NHP as Technology Specialist for Power Distribution, Shaun provides technical support and training to all the Cubic Switchboard Builders throughout New Zealand, as well as technical support to the industry for the power distribution products.

In addition to his roles in the low voltage sector, Shaun has over 25 years’ extensive experience specifically in the distribution transformer market. He has a wealth of knowledge especially in the design, manufacture, and type testing of many different types of integrated transformer substation kiosks, for both the supply authority and renewable energy sector.
