Former Victoria University of Wellington PhD student, Dr. Fangfang Zhang, recently received an honourable mention by the 2022 ACM Special Interest Group in Evolutionary Computation (SIGEVO) for the Best PhD Dissertation Award. The award is given to only one winner and one or two honourable mentions to recognise excellent doctoral theses in the field of evolutionary computing.

Dr. Fangfang Zhang worked with Dr. Yi Mei and Prof. Mengjie Zhang for her PhD, and now continues as a Postdoctoral researcher in Victoria University of Wellington. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Zhang for this great achievement!

“This dissertation proposes multiple innovative ideas for developing new hyper-heuristics based on genetic programming that tackle challenging dynamic-flexible production scheduling problems. It develops novel surrogate models, genetic operators, feature selection algorithms and multi-task techniques, significantly improving training efficiency, and the accuracy and interpretability of evolved scheduling rules.”

Please see our Awards page to see the success of other IEEE NZCS members.
