IES Presentation: BIM For Lighting

July 21, 2022 @ 17:30 - 19:00

The Illumination Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IESANZ) has invited our members to join them for a unique opportunity to be given a demonstration of how lighting design and BIM modelling can become an efficient integrated workflow. The workflow covers the input of lighting supplier information, the lighting design process, Revit modelling and subsequent documentation ready for construction.

For our members who are active in the built environment or have an interest in lighting design and the BIM process, this session will provide you with a great interactive learning opportunity.

To demonstrate and talk us through the process Michael Warwick of MAW Design will lead the session by undertaking a worked example.

Participation of this event can be either in person at the Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) Computer Suite (Te Aro campus), or online via Zoom for those unable to attend in person.

For those wishing to attend in person you have the opportunity to work through the process yourself on one of the university’s computers.

For those dialling in from home or work the same workshop files will be provided so you can follow along if you have any or all of the programs installed — no previous experience required.

Time

The workshop style presentation will start at 6:00pm. If attending in person please plan to arrive at 5:30pm so you’re ready and set up on a workstation ready to go.

To attend via Zoom:

Key Learning outcomes:

  • What are the qualities of ‘good BIM content’ from suppliers and manufacturers.
  • How is the content actually used and by who.
  • What standards are there for BIM in lighting.
  • How does good luminaire content benefit the supplier, architect, engineers, and contractor.

About the Presenter:

Michael Warwick is an independent sustainable lighting consultant and BIM manager with over twenty years of lighting design experience. In 2016 Michael set up his own independent lighting design studio, MAW Design, based in Wellington.

Michael is also a committee member of the New Zealand chapter of the Illumination Engineering Society (IES) and was a director on the establishment board of the New Zealand Green Building Council.
