Abstract: The presentation will describe how the concept of electromagnetically soft and hard surfaces and metamaterial horns (metahorns) came about. I will also discuss practical antennas enabled by these EM techniques, as well as future opportunities and challenges in antenna and RF design. Abstract: This presentation discusses metamaterials from a popular perspective for a general scientific audience. Metamaterials has the capability of bending waves in new ways scientists could not do before. Going back to the start of this exciting technology 20 years ago I will present examples of possible ground breaking wave applications from radio and light waves to acoustic, sonar, ocean and even seismic waves.
