webinar on smart power grid technologies and educational approaches

IEEE Education Society (EdSoc) Kerala Chapter in collaboration with the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Kerala Chapter organized a webinar on the topic ‘Smart Power Grid Technologies and Educational Approaches’ on September 3, 2021, from 7.00 PM to 8.00 PM IST. Dr. Sukumar Kamalasadan, Duke Distinguished Professor at University of North Carolina Charlotte was the speaker of the day. 

The session was intended to give an insight into the Technology of Smart Power Grids and their scope in the field of education. The event began with the welcome note of Dr. Leesha Paul, Vice-Chair of IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter. Followed by that, Er. Jithin Krishnan, Secretary of IEEE EdSoc Kerala Chapter came forward to provide an introduction about the esteemed speaker, Dr. Sukumar Kamalasadan.

In response to the invitation, Dr. Sukumar Kamalasadan came forward and thanked everyone for the welcome note. Followed by that, he began the session with an overview of his activities in the domain of Power Grid.  In this section, he pointed out the key changes that have taken place in this area in terms of sustainability and e-mobility. 

In the next section, he gave a glance into two main power grid aspects, namely bulk power grid and distribution system. In the discussion followed, he explained the technologies behind them and recent developments. As support to that, he touched on the Decision Support System and Power Grid Management, explaining the system behind it. He further explained how the system has evolved into integrated T and D infrastructure. Dr. Sukumar further briefed on the Next Generation Energy Management System presenting a detailed diagram. 

After that, with an overview of the Power Distribution System, Dr. Sukumar proceeded to the final section of the webinar. The various aspects of the distribution system like DSS, Optimization, Hardware, and Software were discussed here. As a conclusion, he provided a summary of all the sections he addressed in his talk, and with that, the session was concluded.

Thanking Dr. Sukumar for his valuable words, the session was then opened for Q&A. Following that, a virtual memento was presented to him. After that, a virtual photograph of the session was taken. 

Following that, Dr. Bobby Philip, Secretary of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter came forward for the vote of thanks. The webinar ended with that thanking note.
