Latest Development of Power Multilevel Converter; Topology, Control and Industrial Applications

December 3, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Power multilevel converters including DC/AC and AC/DC are nowadays used in various industrial, commercial, and domestic applications such as grid-connected systems, rectifiers, battery chargers, active power filter, UPS, electrical drives, etc. This type of power electronics converter makes use of abundant number of power semiconductor devices that should be properly controlled to have maximum efficiency. The primary challenge is to find appropriate topology, design the suitable PWM switching techniques, and apply the appropriate controller. Along with extension of multilevel converter utilization, they have been continuously developed both in hardware and software designs according to the applications requirements as various multilevel topologies has been emerged while the PWM and control technique has been also further developed to improve the converters efficiency. This lecture presents the recent development of power multilevel converter; topology, control and applications with focusing on the analyses and discussion of the compact power converters as the promising multilevel structure to provide a better vision on their challenges which will drives their future.
