The year 2017 has amazed us and taken IEEE to new heights. This newsletter intends to feature the different seminars and conferences that were held in different chapters of IEEE Karachi sections and appropriate the efforts of IEEE members in making this year a success.
Student Activities Committee’s visit to IBA Karachi
The SAC IEEE Karachi Section, on 13th September 2017, was invited to the Institute of Business Administration Karachi by Dr. Imran Rauf who had endeavored to open a Student Branch at IBA Karachi.
IEEE Karachi Section’s Executive Committee members, Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Anas and Syed Hesham Ali visited the IBA to guide the faculty and students on the procedure of opening a student branch at their varsity. On being asked about the benefits that IEEE has to offer, Sheikh Anas vividly described all the fore deal of joining IEEE. Hesham Ali highlighted several projects and discussed numerous events such as IEEEXtreme, IEEE madC, IEEE TAP and StudPro ’17.
SSR visits Revival Ceremony of Bahria University, Karachi Campus (SAC)
The Section Student Representative IEEE Karachi Section, Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Anas was invited to the revival ceremony of the IEEE Bahria University Branch on. The IEEE Karachi Section’s ExeCom member, Mr. Prakash Lohana was also an esteemed guest at the event.
Mr. Prakash Lohana highlighted the importance of volunteering and why it is imperative that a student branch volunteers. He also elucidated their project at a remotevillage on the outskirts of the urban population of Sindh, Revi-ji-Dhani. The project titled IEEE SIGHT was an initiative to at least install basic electrical facilities in the homes of the remote village. The project was deemed a success as each house had lighting and ventilation installed by the end of the project tenure. This gave the students a new sense of motivation to work for the betterment of their country.
The SSR, Sheikh Muhammad Anas inculcated the benefits of IEEE and how students and professionals both can claim these benefits. He also enunciated as to why join IEEE and how it is unique from other societies.
A cake cutting ceremony marked the conclusion of the ceremony with concluding remarks by the Director of Bahria University and the Head of Department of Computer Science.

ICICT is a biannual event and is entering its second decade of disseminating quality research in the disciplines of information and communication technologies. Papers are invited each time in the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics, social computing, wireless sensor networks, e-learning, computational science and other emerging topics. This year’s conference theme was Innovative, Smart and Social technologies. We hope you enjoyed the traditional Pakistani hospitality at ICICT 2017, Karachi.
This year IBA is organizing 7th ICICT with the collaboration of IEEE KHI.
