The Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Victorian Chapter is to be recognised as a cross-disciplinary nursery for advancing the fundamentals of science and engineering in the domains of complex systems, human wisdom and machine intelligence, as well as cybernetics control.

IEEE SMC Victorian Chapter Mission

The SMC Victorian Chapter aims to serve the IEEE members, as well as the practitioners and broader community by promoting and realising the principles and practice of systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and cybernetics. We believe in, and uphold the value of, the amalgamation of our focus domains to create a better world for the future generation.

Notable Achievements

The Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) at Deakin University is a leading entity within the SMC Society in IEEE Victoria. Many research projects and outcomes have been showcased in various media reports, which include:

HaptiScan: A haptically-enabled remote ultrasound System for medical practitioners to perform ultrasound procedures for patients in a remote location.

UMS: A Universal Motion Simulator that facilitates high-fidelity motion simulation and serves as a configurable robotic platform for training of ground, marine and aerial vehicle drivers/pilots. It is a result of decades of research and innovation endeavours at IISRI.
