The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is the world’s largest international community dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity in the fields of medicine and biology. As an integral part of this global network, the IEEE EMBS Sri Lanka Section serves as the leading platform for students and professionals passionate about biomedical engineering, fostering innovation and collaboration at the intersection of engineering and life sciences.
Our community actively engages in diverse fields such as bioinformatics, biotechnology, clinical engineering, medical instrumentation, radiology, robotics, and healthcare information technology. Through workshops, research initiatives, and industry collaborations, we strive to bridge the gap between engineering and medical sciences, empowering individuals to develop impactful solutions in healthcare.
Beyond academia and industry, we extend our influence to the broader community, raising awareness about biomedical engineering and its role in transforming healthcare in Sri Lanka. As a part of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, we collaborate with fellow IEEE EMBS chapters, professionals, and researchers to build a thriving ecosystem for biomedical innovation.

Mission

The mission of the IEEE EMBS Sri Lanka Chapter is to advance the application of engineering sciences and technology to medicine and biology within Sri Lanka. We are committed to promoting the biomedical engineering profession, fostering the development of innovative solutions for healthcare challenges, and providing leadership and knowledge exchange platforms for professionals and students. Through collaboration with industry, academia, and government, we aim to set standards, disseminate cutting-edge research, and recognize excellence in the field of biomedical engineering, ultimately contributing to the improvement of healthcare systems and the well-being of the Sri Lankan community.
