Technical Visit to Barker Inlet Power Station (BIPS)
May 9, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Barker Inlet Power Station (BIPS) is a power station in South Australia with a 210 MW quick start firming capacity. It was announced on 7 June 2017 by AGL Energy to replace part of its ageing Torrens Island Power Stations and was commissioned on 4 November 2019. It was built alongside the existing station on Torrens Island in the north-western suburbs of Adelaide. BIPS comprises 12 reciprocating engines which generate approximately 18 MW each from gas or liquid fuel. Its units can operate at full capacity within five minutes of start-up, providing rapid response to changes in renewable generation supply and demand. Using modern and efficient technology, BIPS uses 28% less fuel and produces 35-50% less greenhouse gas emissions than the existing Torrens A plant. Note: Visitors also need their COVID vaccination certificate uploaded during the induction. About the Presenter: Kevin Andersen is the Project and Site Manager at Torrens Island Battery, AGL.
