Topic: From Computer Science to Radiation Detectors: My Journey as a Researcher
Speaker: Takeshi Fujiwara, Chief Senior Researcher, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan
Abstract:
Radiation detection and imaging have become increasingly crucial in various fields, from medical diagnostics to airport security. As such, the use of digital technologies in radiation instrumentation presents an exciting opportunity for researchers. In this talk, I will share my personal journey as a researcher, from my undergraduate work in computer science and robotics to my current role as a radiation instruments scientist. Join me as I explore the fascinating intersection of these two fields and discuss the potential for innovation using digital technology in radiation sensing.
Biography:
Takeshi Fujiwara received his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Aizu in 2004, and his Ph. D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo in 2009. After a one-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Tokyo, he became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tokyo in 2010. In 2015, he joined the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), where he became a Senior Researcher in 2019 and was promoted to Chief Senior Researcher in 2023.
