IEEE Madras Young Professionals hosted their flagship event ‘STEP 2020: Discovering your professional future’, at Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, Chennai on January 4, 2020. The event was sponsored by the IEEE Madras Section, IEEE Student Professional Awareness Activities, IEEE Madras Product Safety Engineering Society, IEEE Madras Technology and Engineering Management Society and IEEE SB, IEEE Computer Society SB Chapter and IEEE Power & Engineering Society SB Chapter of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College.
The Inauguration of the event began with the Prayer song by student volunteers followed by which Prof. T. Sheela, HOD of Information Technology welcomed the gathering. Dr. A. Rajendra Prasad, Principal of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College in his Special Address, mentioned the importance IEEE membership.
Dr. J. Raja, HOD of Electronics and Communication Engineering delivered the Keynote Address. Er. M. Arun, Vice Chair of IEEE Madras Young Professionals gave a brief outline about the Societies and Funding’s available in IEEE. His talk also included the detailed overview of IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society and the benefits of being its member. Following this Dr. M. Venkatesh Kumar, Immediate Past Chair of IEEE Madras Young Professionals delivered a talk on IEEE Young Professionals. Er. Ashvanth B., Treasurer of IEEE Madras Young Professionals talked about STEP and how it helps in the professional growth of the graduating student members. Dr. Brindha, Associate Professor of ECE delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Richard E Merwin scholar Mr. Leoram of Sri Sairam Engineering College shared his experiences with IEEE. The Inauguration ceremony ended with the IEEE Code of Ethics.
Around 120 students from various Colleges across Tamil Nadu participated in this event. The event included 9 keynote speakers from different fields of expertise.
The keynote sessions started with the session on ‘Entrepreneurship’ which was facilitated by Mr. Harish Srinivasan, co-founder of Infinite Engineers. He provided a clear outline on the difference he had experienced in the Education System through Entrepreneurship, and he also added about ‘Ikigai’. Following this was the session on ‘Research’ by Dr. M. Venkatesh Kumar, Associate Editor of IEEE Access Journal. The attendees came to know more about Research and the procedure for publishing research papers in prestigious journals.
The next keynote session was on careers in ‘non-profit Organization’ facilitated by Mr. Gowtham Kumar, Recruitment Lead of Teach for India. The session inspired the participants to get insights into the work of non-profits and the mark that they leave with the society through impact
The next keynote session is on academia (teaching) by Mr. Arun M., Assistant Professor of Panimalar Institute of Technology.
Mr. Vinod Sharma, Key Account Manager, Emerging Enterprises at Siemens handled the session on Corporate Management. Following, Mr. Sudharshan R., Research Scholar at IIT Madras delivered keynote address on opportunities available in Higher Studies. Mr. Vamsi Krishna Mula, Business Analyst at McKinsey & Co, made the attendees aware about the key points to be kept in mind while preparing a resume through his Skill Building Session. Followed by this, Mr Aravindhan Anbazhagan, Chair, IEEE Madras Young Professionals delivered a session on the big picture of IEEE Young Professionals which helped the participants to get awareness about the opportunities available with IEEE Young Professionals.
The final session of the day was IEEE Young Professionals Panel Discussion by Mr. Ashvanth B., Treasurer, IEEE Madras Young Professionals, Ms. Pooja Sharma, Executive Committee Member, IEEE Madras Young Professionals, Ms. Karthika A. S., Secretary, IEEE Madras Young Professionals, Mr. Eniyan, Student lead, IEEE TEMS India, and Mr. Abdul Halik, Executive Committee Member, IEEE Madras Young Professionals through which they addressed the queries of the participants. Then the event ended with the Valedictory Ceremony.
At the end of the event, Flyers and posters portraying the benefits of being a member of IEEE, IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society and IEEE TEMS were distributed to the attendees.
The participants had an opportunity to interact with the speakers, get their queries clarified and take the initial step of their professional future.
