Technical Talk on “Intelligent Autonomous Navigation of Robots”
This talk introduced the latest spatial AI-based autonomous navigation technologies widely used for autonomous vehicles, such as mobile robots, legged robots, self-driving cars, and drones. In addition to the technical background of SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping), path planning, and motion control, actual cases developed by KAIST Urban Robotics Lab will be introduced. Specifically, he presented various navigation frameworks with mobile robots, drones, and legged robots in diverse environments, including rough terrains. The latest development of the deep reinforcement learning-based blind locomotion technology called DreamWaQ was introduced. About the Speaker: Hyun Myung received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea, in 1992, 1994, and 1998,respectively. He was a Senior Researcher with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Daejeon, from 1998 to 2002, a CTO and the Director with the Digital Contents Research Laboratory, Emersyn Corporation, Daejeon, from 2002 to 2003,and a Principal Researcher with the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Yongin, Korea, from 2003 to 2008. In MR-NOMA, the relationship between symbol rate and energy is exploited to introduce an additional degree of freedom when assigning power to paired users. This enables the allocation of a broader range of power values to high symbol rate users while satisfying the quality-of-service requirements for all users. Consequently, the number of users served can be increased, or this feature can be utilized to enhance link throughput. FDP on Recent Trends in 5G Communication Networks
From December 26 to 30, 2022, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), in a commendable collaboration with IEEE Madras Section, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) Madras Section Chapter, IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Madras Section Chapter, IEEE SEC VTS Student Branch Chapter, and IEEE SEC SPS Student Branch Chapter, meticulously orchestrated a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP). This enlightening program, themed "Recent Trends in 5G Communication Networks," adopted a hybrid format, seamlessly blending in-person interactions with the extensive reach of the virtual Zoom platform, and was conducted from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM each day. The inauguration of this scholarly conclave was marked by a warm welcome address from Dr. S. Brindha, the Convenor of the FDP and esteemed Chairman of the VTS Madras Section Chapter. This was gracefully followed by an insightful Inaugural Address by Dr. K. Porkumaran, the distinguished Chairman of IEEE MAS, and a Special Address by Dr. J.
