Charting the future of optical access networks

October 14 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the IEEE Montréal Section STARACOM for a technical talk by Dr. Jun Shan Wey, Verizon. Whereas the access segment of data communications was a relatively late adopter of optical technologies compared with backbone and metro, it quickly became the main battleground. This seminar will begin with an overview of optical access architectures, e.g., passive optical network (PON) and fixed wireless access (FWA), and drivers for future technology evolution. Based on Verizon’s experience, we will analyze operator’s broadband strategy, review the standardization landscape, and discuss recent innovations in optical access. Co-sponsored by: STARaCom Speaker(s): Dr. Jun Shan Wey, Room: Room 603 , Bldg: McConnell Engineering Building, 3480 University Street, McGill University, Montréal, Quebec, Canada
