ABSTRACT: The integration of machine learning (ML) into fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication systems has emerged as a transformative approach to address the complexity and dynamic nature of modern networks. ML techniques enable intelligent resource allocation, traffic prediction, interference management, and adaptive beamforming, thereby enhancing spectral efficiency and quality of service. In 5G, where massive device connectivity, ultra-low latency, and high data rates are critical, ML-driven solutions provide scalable and data-driven optimization across physical, network, and application layers. Supervised and reinforcement learning models are increasingly applied to tasks such as channel estimation, handover management, and network slicing, while deep learning supports anomaly detection and security. By leveraging ML, 5G systems can evolve into self-optimizing and resilient infrastructures, capable of meeting diverse user demands and supporting emerging applications like IoT, autonomous systems, and immersive multimedia. This synergy paves the way for intelligent, adaptive, and future-ready wireless communication networks. SPEAKER: Dr Harish Sahoo Biography: Dr. Harish Kumar Sahoo is a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, Sambalpur, Odisha, formerly known as UCE Burla, established in 1956. A Senior Member of IEEE, he holds a B.E. from Utkal University, an M.Tech. from NIT Rourkela, and a Ph.D. in Engineering from Sambalpur University. His academic expertise spans electronic systems, adaptive modeling, estimation, and MIMO wireless communication. Dr. Sahoo has taught diverse subjects including analog and digital communication, wireless networks, adaptive signal processing, and advanced digital communication. His research focuses on channel estimation and equalization in MIMO and massive MIMO systems, neural network modeling for 5G/6G networks, and biomedical signal and image processing. Widely published and cited, he has guided numerous scholars and contributed significantly to IEEE activities, earning recognition such as the Best Volunteer Award from IEEE Bhubaneswar Subsection in 2024.
