ABSTRACT:
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into healthcare systems promises transformative improvements in diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient monitoring. However, the opacity of many machine learning models raises concerns about safety, accountability, and trust. Explainable AI (XAI) addresses these challenges by providing transparent reasoning behind predictions and decisions, enabling clinicians to validate outcomes and patients to understand recommendations. By combining interpretability techniques such as feature attribution, rule extraction, and visualization, XAI enhances confidence in AI‑driven healthcare solutions. Trustworthy systems further require adherence to ethical principles, fairness, and regulatory compliance to ensure unbiased and reliable care. Applications include clinical decision support, personalized medicine, and predictive analytics, where explainability fosters collaboration between human expertise and machine intelligence. Ultimately, XAI serves as a cornerstone for building healthcare systems that are not only intelligent but also transparent, ethical, and aligned with patient‑centric values.
Biography:
Dr. Abhilash Pati is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, FET-ITER, at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (Deemed to be University), Bhubaneswar, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (Deemed to be University), which he completed in 2023, and a Post-Doctoral Researcher Certificate from Lincoln University College, Malaysia, obtained in 2026. Prior to this, he earned his B.Tech. and M.Tech. in CSE from Biju Patnaik University of Technology in 2009 and 2013, respectively, alongside an MBA in HR and IT from Sambalpur University in 2011. He also cleared the UGC-NET for Assistant Professor in December 2019. With over 17 years of academic and research experience across various AICTE and UGC-approved institutions, Dr. Pati has developed a remarkable ability to teach, inspire, and mentor young people while leading university-level departmental initiatives. His core research interests lie at the intersection of cutting-edge computing paradigms, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Fog Computing, Blockchain, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. As a highly prolific researcher, he has authored three textbooks and published more than 100 papers in prestigious SCIE, ESCI, and Scopus-indexed international journals and conferences. Beyond authorship, Dr. Pati serves on the editorial boards of several respected journals, such as Discover Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Computing Visions, BMC Artificial Intelligence, and Edelweiss Journal of Engineering and Technology.
