IEEE CS Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section Successfully Organizes Expert Talk on “ Ant with brain: TinyML enabled Edge Intelligence & its applications”

Bhubaneswar, 29th May 2026 — The IEEE Computer Society Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section organized a highly informative technical talk on “Ant with brain: TinyML enabled Edge Intelligence & its applications” on 29th May 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 20 IEEE professional and student members.

The talk was delivered by Dr. Rajesh Purkait, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Purkait provided a comprehensive overview of TinyML, highlighting how machine learning models can be efficiently deployed on ultra-low-power microcontrollers and IoT devices.

He elaborated on the key advantages of on-device intelligence, including reduced latency, enhanced data privacy, and lower bandwidth usage. The speaker also discussed real-world applications across domains such as healthcare (wearable devices), agriculture (smart sensors), smart cities, and consumer electronics, while addressing the technical challenges like memory constraints, model optimization techniques (quantization and pruning), and future directions including federated learning and hardware-algorithm co-design.
