Expert Talk on “AI for Climate Data Analysis” by Dr. Sarbani Roy
Bhubaneswar, 08 May 2026 — The IEEE Computer Society Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section successfully organized a technical talk on “AI for Climate Data Analysis” delivered by Dr. Sarbani Roy, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
The session was held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM IST on 8th May 2026. More than 25 IEEE professional and student members actively participated in the engaging and insightful session. Hare Krishna Ratha, Advisor, IEEE Bhubaneswar Section & Chair, IEEE CS Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section also participated in the event.
Dr. Sarbani Roy highlighted how AI-driven approaches, particularly machine learning and deep learning techniques, are transforming climate data analysis. She emphasized the critical role of accurate missing value imputation in climate modeling by leveraging temporal and spatial correlations. Her talk illustrated how AI models significantly outperform traditional methods by capturing complex environmental patterns in variables such as temperature, precipitation, and air quality.
About the Speaker Dr. Sarbani Roy is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. She holds an M.Tech from the University of Calcutta (2002) and a Ph.D. from Jadavpur University (2008). A Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Fellow (2013–14) at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, USA, her research interests include AI for Social Good, Climate Change, IoT-Cloud, Geoinformatics, and Data Science. She has published extensively in reputed journals including IEEE and ACM Transactions, Nature’s Scientific Reports, and leading international conferences. She has authored a book titled Building Wireless Sensor Networks: Theoretical and Practical Perspectives (CRC Press) and has secured multiple research grants from prestigious funding agencies.
