IEEE Computer Society Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section Organizes Enlightening Expert Talk on Healthcare Applications in Cloud-Edge Computing

Bhubaneswar, April 10, 2026 — The IEEE Computer Society (CS) Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section successfully hosted an insightful online expert talk titled “Healthcare Applications in Cloud-Edge Computing Environment” on 10th April 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Jaydeep Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics & Computing at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar.

More than 20 professionals and student members actively participated in the engaging virtual event, which highlighted the transformative role of cloud-edge computing in modern healthcare systems.

Key Highlights of the Talk

Dr. Jaydeep Das explored how the integration of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), cloud computing, fog computing, and edge computing enables efficient processing of massive real-time medical data. He emphasized that while traditional cloud solutions are powerful for high-end computations and analytics, they often fall short for time-critical healthcare applications due to latency and energy concerns.

The speaker discussed:

  • Opportunities of combining cloud technology with fog and edge-based computing to deliver timely healthcare services, especially in emergency scenarios.
  • Current trends in healthcare applications built on cloud-edge environments.
  • Major challenges, including data security and privacy (given the sensitive nature of patient information), interoperability issues between legacy systems and modern edge platforms, and scalability concerns.

Dr. Das concluded that these challenges present significant opportunities for researchers to innovate in the field. His expertise stems from a strong academic background, including a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur, and collaborations with leading scholars like Prof. Rajkumar Buyya. He has contributed impactful publications with over 170 citations in cloud computing, fog computing, and related areas.

Event Coordination and Gratitude

The event was smoothly managed and coordinated by Dr. Amiya Ranjan Panda (Secretary, IEEE CS Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section and Assistant Professor at KIIT Deemed to be University) and Dr. Sricheta Parui (EC Member, IEEE CS Chapter & Assistant Professor at KIIT Deemed to be University).

The IEEE CS Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Jaydeep Das for delivering such an enlightening and thought-provoking talk. The session provided valuable insights into cutting-edge technologies that can revolutionize healthcare delivery through intelligent, low-latency computing paradigms.

This expert talk series reflects the Chapter’s ongoing commitment to fostering knowledge exchange, innovation, and professional development among IEEE members, students, and the broader technical community in the region.
