Expert Talk on Quantum Computing: Bridging Classical and Quantum Search Algorithms

Bhubaneswar, 03 April 2026 — The IEEE Computer Society (Professional) Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section successfully organized a highly insightful technical talk titled “From Classical to Quantum: Exploring the Foundations of Quantum Search Algorithms” on 3rd April 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The session was delivered by Dr. K.P.S.S. Hembram, Faculty Member in the Department of Physics at Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar. Dr. Hembram provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution from classical search algorithms to quantum frameworks. He highlighted the limitations of classical methods in handling large unstructured datasets and explained how Grover’s algorithm leverages quantum superposition and amplitude amplification to deliver quadratic speedups. The talk covered the mathematical foundations, key conceptual breakthroughs, practical implications for database querying, optimization, and problem-solving, while emphasizing the transformative potential of quantum computing.

Participants found the session very educative and highly interactive, with engaging discussions on the shift toward quantum advantage in computational science.

Event Management and Coordination

The event was efficiently managed by Dr. Amiya Ranjan Panda, Secretary of the IEEE Professional CS Chapter. Ms. Rhea Bachheti, Chair of IEEE XIM CS Student Branch Chapter, coordinated the event effectively.

Prof. Tapas Kumar Patra, Treasurer, and Prof. Puspanjali Mohapatra, Vice Chair (Membership Drive), along with other professional members of the IEEE CS Chapter, actively participated and contributed to the success of the program. More than 20 professional and student members participated in the technical talk.

The talk aligned well with the IEEE Computer Society’s mission of advancing computer science and technology through knowledge dissemination and fostering innovation at the intersection of physics, computing, and emerging technologies.

The IEEE CS Chapter, Bhubaneswar Section expresses its sincere gratitude to Dr. K.P.S.S. Hembram for his valuable contribution and to all the organizers, coordinators, and participants for making the event a grand success.
