The IEEE Computer Society Chapter (CH11163), Bhubaneswar Section, in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch of IIIT Bhubaneswar, successfully organized a virtual expert talk on the topic “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Smart Farming Applications” on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM IST.

The speaker for the session was Dr. Lavika Goel, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. Dr. Goel, a Senior Member of IEEE and an acclaimed researcher with over 100 publications, delivered an insightful talk highlighting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques in revolutionizing modern farming practices. Her presentation covered hybrid intelligent systems, nature-inspired algorithms, and real-world applications in crop recommendation and smart agriculture.

The event was conducted virtually via Google Meet and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 92 students, researchers, and faculty members across institutions. The participants appreciated the relevance of the topic and the speaker’s expertise in making complex AI/ML concepts relatable to agriculture-based innovations.

Dr. Goel also shared glimpses of her funded research projects supported by DST and ANRF and discussed future research directions in the area of AI for agriculture, drawing from her deep research in intelligent systems.

The session was extremely well-received and added significant value to the participants’ understanding of emerging technologies in farming applications.
