On the 9th of March, 2016; IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh & Department of EEE, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB organized a seminar on the “Power Sector in Bangladesh: Past, Future and Present”. The seminar primarily targeted graduates along with significant participation from undergraduate students as well. The topic was of huge importance as power plays a huge role in the development of a country like Bangladesh and a well planned power sector is one of
the foundation pillars for a developing country. The seminar was launched with the opening remarks from Mr. Shams Shad Islam Khan, Chair, IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group, Bangladesh Section followed by Mr. Nasim Al Islam, Chair, IEEE MTT-S AIUB SB Chapter,Treasurer IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group, Bangladesh Section; Teaching Assistant, Department of EEE, AIUB and Mr. Abdullah Ash Saki,Membership Development Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section who briefed the audience about the Young Professionals Affinity Group and Bangladesh Section.The opening speech was then given by Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Director of the EEE Program and Assistant Professor of Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who welcomed the speaker Mr. Safiul Alam, Senior Consultant, Energypac Engineering Limited on stage. The honorable speaker talked about the power sector in Bangladesh, providing statistics about its installed capacity through his presentation. He further talked about the power sector’s system operation activities and covered crucial topics like the different parameters of quality electricity. This was followed up by Mr. Saiful, presenting a total solution system with a brief description of the system’s each and every component to prevent and fight against any undesirable situation like the recent blackout scenario in the national grid of Bangladesh.Mr. Rinku Basak, Head of the Graduate Program and Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB gave an inspiring speech to the participants of the seminar and thanked the keynote speaker and the guests from the affinity group for their initiative. Afterwards, the speaker was handed a token of appreciation by Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Head of the Undergraduate Program and Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB for his valuable time and effort in presenting the seminar. Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin, Vice Chair, IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group, Bangladesh Section; Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; and Dr. Md. Tanvir Hasan, Secretary, IEEE Young Professional Affinity Group, Bangladesh Section; Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB graced the event with their presence.
