Power Electronics Grid Connected Converters Intelligent Control

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/301714

Single and three-phase grid-connected converters are widely used in energy conversion systems such as renewable energies systems, electrical vehicles, active filters, etc... Maintaining a good power quality level in modern electric grid remains the greatest challenge in front of the nonstop harmonic pollution generated by operating nonlinear systems. Traditionally, grid-connected converters are controlled with conventional vector control methods. However, several limitations are associated with these mechanisms especially in their applicability to dynamic systems. Advanced non-linear controllers were introduced also for this behalf. Several control techniques applied for the grid connectivity applications will be discussed. Recently, the mitigation towards intelligent-based controllers started to gain more and more attention and to be integrated in the control of the grid connected converters. On this behalf, an overview about the latest advances in this field will be discussed. Speaker(s): Dr. Fadia Sebaaly, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/301714

NASA Systems Engineering: Introduction to Project Life Cycle and Future Developments in Space Exploration.

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/299073

Many engineers seeking to enter the space industry lack insight on project life cycle phases that may impede on project process and aptness to meet both requirements and deadlines. In this talk, I will dissect the different phases that compose Project Life Cycle. This presentation will provide an overview of each phase, including: Concept Studies, Concept and Technology Development, Preliminary Design and Technology Completion, Final Design and Fabrication, System Assembly, Integration and Test, Launch, Operations and Sustainment, and Closeout. The presentation will conclude with an outlook of future technologies for space exploration and settlement. Terahertz Days: Integral equation approaches to periodic and non-periodic problems: from phased arrays to metasurfaces

Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/294287

The growing complexity of electromagnetic devices calls for a numerical approach to the solution of Maxwell's equations. Among the available numerical techniques, integral-equation formulations are quite attractive because they are very efficient for open domains and because, through the exploitation of Green's functions, they appear as a natural extension of analytical and physical reasoning. This presentation will show a class of integral-equation methods developed for mutual-coupling analysis in phased arrays and for modal analysis in meta-surfaces. In particular, we will show that specific hybridization between space-domain and spectral-domain approaches can lead to efficient tools for both analysis and design.
